Tiller heads, Locking Rings and Emergency Tillers

Jefa Marine produces a wide range of tiller heads, locking rings and emergency tillers.

Tiller Heads:

Tiller heads are available in two sizes, the small one will accept a 25, 30, 35 and 40 mm shaft, the big one accepts a 50 mm shaft. The small one is best used with the special top bearing with integral stops (extension ....STP) as no external stop arrangement is required. The base of the tiller heads is made of anodised seawater resistant aluminium 6082 (AlMgSI1 ), the U- profile for the tiller is made of stainless steel 316. The height/angle of the tiller arm is adjustable by set screws.

Locking rings:

Locking rings are made of anodised seawater resistant aluminium 6082 (AlMgSI1) and contain stainless steel set screws to achieve a perfect locking on the shaft. Its advisable to pre-drill the rudder shaft a couple of millimetres for the best security. Locking rings are used above the top bearing to prevent the rudder from sliding out of the vessel. Locking rings can also be used underneath the top bearing to prevent a light rudder from floating up. Between a locking ring and the bearing we always supply a delrin ring for a smooth rotation. For super smooth running applications we can supply a delrin ring with a ball race.

Emergency tillers:

Emergency tillers are made of seawater resistant aluminium 6082 (AlMgSI1). They can be produced for rudder shaft top type 1 and 2 (see our rudderstock page). The picture, drawings and table show the standard emergency tillers. Special shapes and type's can be made on customers request.
